Why I became a sleep consultant...

Working with children has always been a passion. From nannying when I was younger, to chasing my dream to become a midwife, I knew it was what I was destined to do.

I proudly completed a Batchelor of Science degree in Midwifery and now with 12 years of experience, have become a passionate, driven and successful practicing midwife. In that time, I have trained and become a specialist in breastfeeding, antenatal education, postnatal care and baby massage.

Despite all the practice and qualifications, nothing quite prepared me for the horror of severe sleep deprivation, on becoming a mother. My premature, unwell but beautiful daughter sent me to new levels of exhaustion.

Unfortunately, I had never heard of the services of a sleep consultant, instead it took study, time and commitment to take me from sleep deprived to a happy and flourishing parent.

As result of my own personal journey, I came to realise how much sleep impacts a family’s overall health and wellbeing. I acknowledge the impact poor sleep can have on health, mental health, infant bonding and relationships.

Getting sleep turned my life around.

It was this moment of realisation that became the foundation for developing Enhance Sleep Solutions, as a way of providing families with the support they need.

Building on my midwifery qualifications, I completed a comprehensive sleep education programme with the International Maternity and Parenting Institute, emerging as a fully certified sleep consultant. But I haven’t stopped there! I then completed Dr Harvey Karp’s Happiest Baby on the Block education certification and continue working as a midwife.

Even after 15 years of practice, in England and Australia I continue to passionately work in all areas of midwifery and teaching healthy sleep solutions.

“Sleep is the power source that keeps your mind alert and calm. Every night and at every nap, sleep recharges the brains battery. Sleeping well increases the brain power, just as weightlifting builds stronger muscles, because sleeping well increases your attention span and allows you to be physically relaxed and mentally alert at the same time. Then you are at your personal best”.
